Hannah Lauren Riley x Kullu Karishma
'Indian Dreamweaving' is a textile collaboration between Hannah Lauren Riley and the ethical textiles studio, Kullu Karishma.
In 2018, nine fashion and textiles students from UTS travelled to Kullu, in the Himachal Pradesh district of India, situated in the Himalayas, to learn traditional weaving, spinning and natural dyeing techniques.
Working with local artisans, we each created a one-off five-metre textile piece, designed and hand-woven by each student.

Sketching ideas for the weave pattern
This weave is inspired by India's rich technicoloured cityscapes and towns filled with an infusion of multicoloured cultural decorations, painted houses, spices and food.
I sought to create a colourful shimmering weave, that stands out just as much as the spangled fabrics and flower garlands that adorn the streets of both Kullu and Delhi do.

The project was displayed at the Museum of Sydney as part of Bandana Tewari's Keynote: Politics & Fashion for the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas Fashion Hub 2019.
